Cash for Gold

Cash for Gold!

Selling second-hand gold is extremely popular right now because the prices for gold and other precious metals are hitting all-time highs as well as many people needing to find some extra cash to cover the bills. With so many people looking to sell and with gold in demand, there are numerous unscrupulous operators who are only too happy to take your gold and either stint on the paying the price for what it is really worth, or in some situations, avoid paying you altogether!

When you are looking for a company to do business with, make sure they are not a middle-man or a pawnshop who will be looking to sell on your gold to a refiner at a profit for them.  This is money you otherwise would get so don’t take a loss so someone else can make a killing.  Deal with the refiner directly as they will be the ones who are most likely to pay top dollar for the pieces you have to sell.

When you come to select a refiner who deals direct with the selling public, make sure they have a transparent selling process which is safe and secure with no hidden extras.  You are looking for a refiner who will pay a good price for your gold but has no extra charges or fees lurking in the small print – you are looking for a price and a check for the full amount with the minimum of fuss and maximum security.

A good quality refiner will immediately upon receipt of your items, evaluate them for weight and gold content (not only gold but also platinum, silver and other precious metals) and all of this will be performed under camera surveillance so there is no dispute as to what the total value is of your second hand items.

Once the metal has been evaluated, you should be notified very quickly, preferably by email or telephone of the value of the items and be offered a price for them.  If you decide you accept the offer then the check should be transmitted within 24 hours – there is no earthly reason for lengthy payment systems – the items are yours and if the company wants to buy them they should pay for them promptly.

Steer clear of companies who do not have a published buying gold price.  You should be able to see very quickly what the price is for gold of given purity and weight so you can compare the price to other buyers.  If there is no published price – leave that company alone!
A lot of companies are doing business over the internet so you need to take some extra precautions.  First of all, you must ensure the company behind the website is actually a real company and not some front for a scam.  Look for a verifiable physical address and a telephone number which can be called and is not a contract call center – look the company up in the White Pages and see if they are listed and that the details match those you see on the website.

A company that has been doing business for a long time is usually much more preferable to deal with than a new company with no track record.  Reputable refiners have been doing business for decades and they are much more preferable to use than a company which promises the earth but has no history, no customer reviews and no trading history or reviews with the Better Business Bureau.
