Frequently Asked Questions
What is Refinity Recycling?
We are an environmentally-friendly refiner (recycler) of precious metals. The term "refining" refers to the process we use to free precious metal from base metals, impurities or unwanted material. Read more about the refining process.
In Simple Terms, What Do You Do?
We take old scrap precious metal (which can include gold, silver, platinum or palladium), put it through the refining process and create new eco-friendly "recycled" pure metals. Scrap can be old jewelry, dental or watch parts, tableware, etc.
Why would I want to sell you my scrap metal?
1. We Pay Top Dollar and We Pay it Quickly - There is NO middle man. We will always pay you the maximum possible return on your scrap metal and there are no hidden fees. Each item we receive is carefully evaluated for weight and precious metal content so that you receive fair compensation. Upon receipt of your metal, we assess the merchandise and then email you our settlement offer. If satisfied with our offer, we send payment to you within 24 hours. Read more about our policy.
2. Our Experience and Reputation - Our refinery has over 75 years of experience. Customer service and satisfaction are our top priorities and our integrity and reputation cannot be beaten. We aim to make your experience with us both pleasurable and satisfying so that you are always delighted with our service.
3. Refinity.com is an Eco-Friendly Refiner - We respect and conform to all state, local and federal environmental emissions laws. The refining process involves the use of solid, liquid and gaseous chemicals that are potentially harmful to the environment. We believe in taking care of our environment and it is our responsibility to make sure that these chemicals do not find their way into the environment so we have installed new state-of-the-art processes that reduce waste products by 75%. Any waste products that are produced are strictly treated so that any releases from the refinery are environmentally-friendly. Learn more about the refining process.
4. Recycling Your Scrap is Good For The Earth – From recycling newspapers to choosing the right light bulbs, your responsible, eco-friendly choices can help save the planet and its resources. Recycling your metal scrap is just one more way for you to make a difference! All of the precious metals submitted by you are recycled into other products that are sold to the jewelry trade. This supply of metal diminishes the need for destructive metal mining practices that harm the environment, contaminate waters and lands and endanger the health and lives of humans and animals. Is it better to sell my gold to a local pawn shop or jewelry store rather than send it to Refinity?
Jewelry stores, pawn shops and other local gold buyers are not refiners. They will buy your gold and then send it to a refiner, like us, to recover what they paid to you, plus a profit margin which was deducted from your settlement. It stands to reason that you will get a greater return when dealing directly with a refiner like Refinity.com.
I’ve seen a lot of scams on the internet. How do I know for sure that you are reputable, honest and law-abiding?
We have been in business for over 75 years and our commitment to giving our customers honest and fair returns has made us an industry leader. We are members of the JBT, MJSA, and D&B. We adhere to strict standards and are committed to exceeding all federal, state and local environment regulations.
As a purchaser of precious gold metals we are required by Federal law to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act and its Anti Money Laundering (AML) requirements as detailed under the USA Patriot Act for the deterrence of terrorist activity. We are in full compliance with the regulations as pertains to our business. Details can be furnished upon request.
What types of metal will you accept?
We only accept precious metal scrap. This includes white gold, yellow gold, pink, red and green gold, platinum, palladium and silver. Examples are old jewelry including class rings, fashion and engagement rings, wedding bands, necklaces, chains, and any type of sterling silver from rings to silverware. What do you mean by "payment within 24 hours?"
We mean that the processing of the check will begin as soon as we receive your acceptance of our offer. Keep in mind that your package will be traveling to us via USPS, which could take up to 5 business days or more, depending on where you live. And it could take a similar amount of time to get back to you. However, typically it takes only a couple of days to arrive at Refinity.com. You will receive notification upon receipt and then an offer within 24 hours. You will have 2 days to respond to our email offer. You may accept or decline it. If you accept our offer, a check will be sent to you within 24 hours. If you decline our offer, we will return your items at no charge. NOTE: If we do not hear from you within 48 hours, we will assume you have accepted our offer. Please note that after 5 days, your items will be processed (refined) at our facility, so there will be no opportunity for you to get those items back.
How much will you pay for my gold?
The price of gold fluctuates on a daily basis, and our payout is affected by the market rate on that day. (Note our daily precious metal prices at the top of every web page.) Also, every payment we issue is different and depends on the contents we receive from you.
What happens after I fill out the online form?
Upon completion of the online Jewelry Processing Form, you will be able to print out the form which includes your personal information and the barcode that will be used to log you into our database upon receipt of your package. You must include this printout with your package! Failure to do so will hold up your order processing.
Once we receive your package, the barcode will be scanned and an automated email will be sent to you confirming our receipt of your package. The package will be opened and contents photographed and assessed.
How does RefinityRecycling assess my scrap?
All items will be checked for hallmarks to determine metal content. If there are no hallmarks, XRF will be used to identify them. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometry is a non-destructive analytical technique used to identify and determine the concentrations of elements present in your scrap. The spectrometer measures the individual component wavelengths of the fluorescent emission produced by a sample when irradiated with X-rays. If there are stones present, you will receive an email asking if it is ok to proceed. If that is not ok, we will return the package. If there are no stones, we will proceed to next stage.
All items will be assessed using hallmarks, XRF data and weights. A total lot value will be calculated. We will send you an email detailing each line item and the grand total for payout. You will have 2 days to respond. If we hear nothing from you in 2 days, we will issue a check and consider the transaction completed. If you are not happy with the grand total amount, we will return the items free of charge.
